RE: Electrical service for large class A...220 or 110?

120V 50A service is your option. There are no production RV's, to my knowledge that have 220V service. If per chance you were to come up with one, I seriously doubt that you would be able to find a CG that supported it.It's the same system right up to the circuit breaker box for RV 120 or 240 then it splits. It's the same, 50 amps X 120 X 2 = 12,000 watts or 240 X 50 = 12,000 watts

RE: So you want a Newell -- safe but legal?

I've been saying there were overweight problems for years, but get "shouted down" with comments like "the manufacturers wouldn't build it if it wasn't legal".
Thanks for the vindication!!
BTW: Ex DOT engineer here so I do have a little knowledge of the subject.

RE: Fuel Milage and Horsepower relationship

HP was invented when the steam engine came into use so that there was some measure of what work a newfangled steam engine could do and how many horses it could replace.
Read the formula for figuring HP, it's torque and rpm that give you the HP of an engine. That's what a dyno measures, torque and rpm, then HP is calculated from that, nothing more.

RE: Extended Warranty and Service Plans

No such thing as an "extended warranty" unless it's offered by the manufacturer of the item. They are service policies by law. The policy is a contract, you breech it in ANY way and they wiggle out of the claim. On person on the forum had a transmission claim denied because he had gone 750 miles over on the ENGINE oil change. Not right, but perfectly legal. Most are so full of holes that they hardly ever pay off. One industry rag I read said that the average payout is 2% of revenue, about 50% goes to the selling dealer and that leaves 48% for the "insurance" co. Not a bad profit (for THEM).
Consumer Reports says not to buy them unless you buy something that you KNOW will need a lot of repairs, and if that's the case I wouldn't want it!!

RE: Fluorescent lights...WOW!

Yup ours has the whole string from front to back. Very nice.
Both our DSDP's have had them, on the first one I replaced all the bulbs with warm white's, on the latest one it came with warm white bulbs from the factory and I had taken them out of the old DSDP (had saved the cool white ones and put them back) before we traded it so I have lots of spares now!

RE: Help Us to Understand

I've been RV'ing for 51 years now, so I've been at it a while!
We boondock at Wal*Marts to save time and a little money although shopping in Wal*Mart while there isn't cheap.
1. We travel LATE and most campgrounds are closed when we stop.
2. We paid many thousands of $ extra to be self contained so we don't need hookups.
3. We are both still working so we want to get there in the shortest amount of time, so long hours is a must.
4. When we reach our destination we stay in a campground, unless it's to Quartzsite, then it's all boondocking.
PS: Alwasy glad to see newcomers to RV'ing.
5. We like to save money. Why pay for hookups if we don't need them?

RE: A second Frdge "Outside"?

We have a 100# refer/freezer on a slideout in one of the bays. We run it 100% of the time off our inverter/batteries or shore power. We have 4 U-2200's and have to recharge them three times a day from the gen set for 2 hrs each time.

RE: Michelin Super Singles anyone?

Newmar tested them some while back. They decided not to use them. Thats good enough for me.
I see them on a few pups on construction equipment, but that's about it around here.

RE: leveling jack and tire

HWH says the jacks are sized to lift and HOLD the rig completely off the ground. The one caveat is that the parking brake is on the rear axle so the rig can roll if both rear tires are off the ground. I regularly leave the front of ours completely off the ground for months while in storage beside the stick house. Been doing it for years with two different rigs with HWY jacks with no problems.

RE: Worn Goodyear tires

The Michelins will be shot from weather cracking in 4 years. Our Michelins are over 7½ years old (carcus is dated in early 2001) and are just starting to show a little cracking right at the treat/sidewall interface, nothing to worry about though. Good for a few more years at least.

RE: Need a shock recommendation

Koni may not have a part number assigned to your specific application yet but they didn't for mine either. If you supply them the part number on the shock you have currently have they can look up the specs and most likely find a match in their line that will work.
That is what they did for me.Reyco Granning tried that, KONI doesn't make a shock for the 14,600# axle as I stated ini my first post. They were supposed to have them by late last year but still not here.

RE: Need a shock recommendation

I had been wanting to put Koni's on my '04 DSDP / Spartan chassis but have learned that Koni does not make a shock for my IFS.
How about a good second choice?
Has anyone heard when Koni will have one available?
Thanks! You must have the ReycoGranning 14,600# axle like we do. I put FSD's on the rear and the older style adjustables on the front. Still far better then even the revalved Bilsteins that we tried (3 different sets from stock to 10% to 30% less compression)

RE: Anyone used this to seal roof? (Sikaflex)

If they're turning their attention to the RV industry then it's good news for us.Not sure I understand this comment, our 2000 DSDP (as does our present 2002) used Sikaflex around the skylight as the plastic skylight isn't compatable with Dicor self leveling sealant.
Meaning I had very good luck with Sika products when I was boating. It appears you didn't quote fully.Nope, I looked, I was right, SikaFlex products have been used by Newmar since at least 2000 so it's not something new as you imply.

RE: 6 Volt Batteries at Costco

What do these numbers stand for on a 6 volt battery at costco?
220 Amp hrs @ 20 hr (is this for 2 batteries?, or what about for 2 6v bats)
Battery rated @ 100 min
Min @ 75 amp : 100
Min @ 25 amp : 425
these are costco golf cart batteries that apparently Johnson Control makes. I don't know how good they are but I think they are better than my 12v interstates that came with the coach. The trailer was made Jan of 2007 and the batteries couldn't hold a long charge last summer. I confirmed that last weekend when the power went out at our campground for 7 hours. We weren't at the trailer and everything 12v was off and the batteries were charging at 13.5 for 21/2 days. When we got back and turned on 2 sets of lights they only read at 12.25.amps. I have taken good care of these batts with proper filling of DI water, and regular maintenance. They just didn't hold up. I want to switch to 2 6volts. Any advice would help. Also does Johnson Control really make them for costco and are they any good?Wired for 12 V output from 2 6 volt doubles the voltage and keeps the same amp hours. We have 4 Interstate U-2200's so that doubles the voltage and amps available.

RE: Cummins/Freightliner Cruise Control

...Can you use the cruise control to set high idle on your Cummins?...
Can you expand on that? I haven't heard of high idle via cruise control.Start engine, turn on cruise and push the "SET" button, that raises the ldle to about 1,000 rpm.
